Sustainability Policy

Chana Projects Limited is dedicated to delivering sustainable solutions within the construction industry. Our policy aligns with our core values of conserving heritage while ensuring the long-term resilience of future assets. We recognise that sustainability encompasses not only environmental concerns but also social and economic responsibilities. By adopting sustainable practices, we aim to minimise negative impacts and contribute to a more sustainable built environment.

The purpose of this policy is to formalise our commitment to sustainability across all aspects of our business operations, including our clients, project management and delivery, supply chain interactions, and internal practices. We aim to lead by example in integrating sustainable methods into our business, ensuring that we balance the needs of the present without compromising future generations.

This policy applies to all employees, contractors, partners, and projects that are managed by Chana Projects Limited. We are committed to ensuring that sustainability is embedded into every stage of our work, from concept and design to project delivery and operational support.

Key Commitments:

Environmental Stewardship:

  • Climate Action and Carbon Management: We commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by adopting energy-efficient principles and practices, promoting the use of renewable energy, and ensuring responsible waste management and recycling at project sites. We aim to achieve carbon neutrality across our operations by 2050, regularly reviewing our carbon footprint.

  • Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy: We emphasise the importance of resource efficiency, including water, materials, and energy, and actively promote the reuse and recycling of construction materials. We collaborate with suppliers and clients to integrate circular economy principles into our project designs.

  • Biodiversity and Ecosystem Protection: We will ensure that our projects contribute to the conservation of biodiversity. When working near sensitive ecological areas, we will incorporate measures to protect natural habitats and support local wildlife.

Sustainable Design and Construction:

  • Encouraging Low-Impact Design: Although we are not designers (such as Architects or Engineers), we will seek to promote and encourage sustainable design strategies that enhance the longevity and adaptability of buildings while minimising environmental impacts. These strategies include the use of energy-efficient systems, sustainable materials, and technologies that reduce environmental degradation.

  • Sustainable Building Certifications: We encourage and support the achievement of internationally recognised sustainable building certifications such as BREEAM, LEED, and WELL in the projects we manage.

  • Resilience and Adaptation: We prioritise designs that ensure buildings and infrastructure are resilient to the impacts of climate change (such as flooding, heatwaves, extreme weather events, etc), in addition to designs that seek to retrofit and reuse existing building fabric and stock before exploring further options.

 Social Responsibility:

  • Health, Safety, and Well-being: We are committed to ensuring safe, healthy, and inclusive work environments for all people and stakeholders involved in our projects. We seek to deliver buildings that prioritise the well-being of end-users (including air quality, natural light, green spaces, etc).

  • Community Engagement: Where appropriate we engage with local communities, ensuring our projects contribute positively to the socio-economic development of the area. We seek to create social value through skills training, employment opportunities, and investment in local infrastructure.

  • Diversity and Inclusion: We value diversity in our workforce and actively work to create an inclusive environment, promoting equal opportunities in hiring, training, and career advancement.

Sustainable Supply Chain:

  • Ethical Sourcing: We prioritise suppliers and subconsultants who adhere to and adopt ethical practices, including fair labour conditions, environmentally responsible practices, and compliance with sustainability certifications. We encourage the use of sustainable building materials in our projects (such as low-carbon concrete, recycled steel, responsibly sourced timber, etc).

  • Supplier Partnerships: We aim to build long-term partnerships with suppliers who share our values, working collaboratively to enhance our practices and reduce the environmental impact of our joint operations.

Governance and Accountability:

  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance: We comply with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and standards at national and international levels, including but not limited to the UK’s environmental and sustainability directives.

  • Continuous Improvement: We will continuously seek opportunities to improve our sustainability performance by staying abreast of industry best practices, technological innovations, and evolving sustainability standards.

Employee Engagement and Training:

  • We believe that fostering a culture of sustainability within our workforce is crucial for long-term success. All employees will be provided with training on sustainability issues. This ensures that sustainability principles are understood and applied consistently across all projects and operations.

Implementation and Monitoring:

  • Leadership and Responsibility: Senior management at Chana Projects Limited is responsible for the implementation of this policy and the overall sustainability strategy. Sustainability objectives will be embedded into project delivery, with regular progress reviews.

  • Performance Monitoring: We will establish clear metrics and indicators to measure our sustainability impact and will conduct regular internal and external audits to assess compliance and performance.

  • Policy Review: This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner, if necessary, to ensure it reflects the latest sustainability practices, technologies, and regulatory requirements.

Sustainability is central to Chana Projects Limited’s mission of creating long-term value for our clients and society. Through our commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and transparent governance, we aim to contribute to a sustainable and resilient built environment. This policy reflects our ongoing dedication to sustainability and outlines the practical steps we will take to achieve these goals.
